For one night, Italy enjoys first place in the medal table of the World Indoor Championships in Torun. After the gold won by Andy Diaz in the triple jump, two more triumphs arrive which confirm the extraordinary moment of the Italian athletics: Zaynab Dosso dominates the 60 meters and Nadia Battocletti achieves the feat in the 3,000.

Perfect bump in the 60 meters

The Italian sprinter, already among the most anticipated on the eve, showed up in Poland with the best time of the season, 6″99, shared with the Santalucian Julien Alfred. On the track, however, Zaynab Dosso made the difference with two practically identical tests: 7″00 in the semi-final and 7″00 in the final, preceding the American Jacious Sears and Alfred herself by three hundredths.

For Dosso it is the culmination of continuous growth in the indoor world championship: bronze in Glasgow in 2024, silver in Nanjing in 2025 and now world gold. Encouraging indications also from Kelly Doualla: the sixteen-year-old, making her debut in the senior national team, passed the morning heats before stopping in the semifinals.

Battocletti signs the feat in the 3,000

The second gold of the day bears the signature of Nadia Battocletti, making her career debut in an indoor world championship. The Trentino middle-distance runner won the 3,000 meters in 8:57.64, adding her first world title to a list of awards already enriched by Olympic silver in the 10,000 meters and outdoor world podiums. A result of great importance also on a historical level, considering that the last European to establish herself in the specialty was the Russian Olga Yegorova in 2001.

Tactical race and resolved with clarity by Battocletti, who waited for the right moment to change pace in the final laps. In the final, she first let the Australian Hull vent, then made the decisive push in the last 100 metres, finishing ahead of the American Emily Mackay and Jessica Hull herself. Eleventh place for the other Italian Micol Majori.

«It was a crazy race, I think I ran out of tears of joy – said Nadia Battocletti -. Here we had to dance in chaos, I repeated this to myself in the most critical moments, and I succeeded. For me it’s a dream, not because I don’t believe in myself but in this race I struggled, the approach wasn’t easy: I finished Ramadan two days ago, so the sensations in training couldn’t have been optimal.”

The thirty-year-old then added: «I let the train go, inside myself I thought of staying there like a bloodhound, of feeling the right moment to leave and then “all horses down”, as my dad says».

Simonelli eighth, record for Ehammer

In the 60 hurdles Lorenzo Simonelli reached the final with the last available time, but in the final act he finished in eighth place in 7″52. In the pole vault success went to the Swede Armand Duplantis, who this time did not attempt to attack the world record.

Record instead in the heptathlon, where the Swiss Simon Ehammer improved the world record of the specialty after 14 years, totaling 6670 points in the seven tests.

With three gold medals overall, Italy has already surpassed the tally of Nanjing 2025, closing with a new absolute record of successes in an indoor World Cup. Tomorrow the last blue hopes will be entrusted to Mattia Furlani and Larissa Iapichino.
