Daniela Santanchè’s morning of work has begun at the Ministry of Tourism in Via di Villa Ada. The minister, wearing a beige suit and sunglasses, arrived at 10.05 accompanied by an escort. As he got out of the blue car he was talking on the phone and waved in the direction of the numerous journalists waiting for him, to whom he made no statements. Work appointments are on the agenda, some dedicated to the organization of the International Pet Tourism Forum scheduled for Rome and May, so much so that several taxis have arrived in front of the ministry. Before the minister’s arrival there was also a brief and isolated protest by a man who drove past the ministry in a car honking his horn and shouting: “Resign!”.
Malan: “He will follow Meloni’s instructions”
“Like all ministers, he will follow the instructions of the Prime Minister, but we will not take lessons from those who limited the rights of Italians with the Prime Ministerial Decree and to avoid parliamentary passage”. The group leader of the Brothers of Italy, Lucio Malan, said this in the Senate, addressing the opposition who had shortly before asked to discuss the motion of no confidence in the Minister of Tourism, also reiterating the request that Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni return to the Chamber to report. After the words of Malan, who accused the minorities of “lies and mystifications” during the campaign for the referendum, there were moments of tension in the Chamber with shouting and cross accusations which the vice-president Gian Marco Centinaio tried to contain by threatening to suspend the assembly. Malan then recalled that the Prime Minister «came to the chamber 10 days ago» and that «the three questions of Andrea Delmastro, Giusi Bartolozzi and Daniela Santanchè are extraneous to the government’s activity. It is not a political question but personal situations that have nothing to do with the life of the government.”
The opposition presents the motion of no confidence
A motion of no confidence in the Minister of Tourism, Daniela Santanchè, was tabled this morning in the Chamber and signed by all the opposition forces. Here is the text signed by Chiara Braga (Pd), Riccardo Ricciardi (M5s), Luana Zanella (Avs), Matteo Richetti (Action), Maria Elena Boschi (Iv) and Riccardo Magi (+Europa). «The Chamber, given that: article 94 of the Constitution gives each Chamber the power to revoke confidence by means of a reasoned motion; the political responsibility of individual ministers constitutes an essential element of the correct functioning of the executive and of the relationship of trust with Parliament; considering that: – the President of the Council of Ministers, with a statement made in the late afternoon of March 24th, publicly called for the resignation of the Minister of Tourism Daniela Garnero Santanchè; – the opposition representatives write – these declarations highlight the breakdown of the relationship of trust between the Prime Minister and the minister, resulting in a situation of objective incompatibility with remaining in office; the failure to assume responsibility through voluntary resignation, in the face of an explicit distancing from the top of the executive, constitutes a serious institutional anomaly; this situation compromises the credibility of government action and damages the image of the institutions; having seen article 94 of the Constitution and having seen article 115 of the Rules of the Chamber of Deputies, expresses its no confidence in the Minister of Tourism, Senator Daniela Garnero Santanchè, and commits her to resign”.
