Sara Errani and Jasmine Paolini, after a fight lasting an hour and a half, win the women's doubles tournament, becoming champions of the Italian Internationals.
The two Italian players beat Coco Gauff and Erin Routliffe in the final played on Centrale with a score of 6-3, 4-6, 10-8. For Italy the last success came in 2012 when Errani, together with Vinci, beat Ekaterina Makarova/Elena Vesnina 6-2, 7-5.
“A great joy to win here in Rome.” Thus the celebrating Sara Errani and Jasmine Paolini after the victory of the women's doubles of the Internazionali d'Italia, the WTA 1000 tournament staged on the red clay of the Foro Italico. “It's incredible to be here with the trophy in my hand, I'm really happy. Thanks to our corner, to Renzo Furlan (his coach, ed.) and to Tathiana Garbin (captain of the Italian Fed Cup team, ed.)”, he said the Tuscan Paolini during the awards ceremony. “Having won this tournament is crazy. I won it years ago and to have won it again today is fantastic. Winning here is truly a dream. I didn't expect it, I thank everyone”, said Errani from Romagna, who also remembered that in the first round they were down 7-5 4-0 against the duo Melichar Martinez-Perez. The 37-year-old born in Bologna had already triumphed once at the Italian Internationals, again in the women's doubles, paired with Roberta Vinci, in 2012
