There are 12 suspects for the collapse of the Longobucco bridge, which took place on May 3, 2023. In particular, this is the collapse of the “Ortiano 2” viaduct, built nine years earlier to break the insulation of the Montano di Longobucco center and improve the downstream connections.
A work of the Sila-Mare for over twenty years, which has however continued to develop even after the collapse caused by a flood of the Trionto river. For that event, which profoundly affected the public opinion, the Public Prosecutor of the Republic of Castrovillari He had opened a file, notifying the closing of the investigations two years later.
The investigation is followed by the Public Ministra Veronica Rizzaro and directly by the chief prosecutor Alessandro D’Alessio. The investigations ended at the end of 2024 and the first interrogations have already started, with the notice of conclusion of the investigations notified to 12 people, including members of the tender commission, responsible for the project of the successful tenderer and managers of the Anas sector.
The accusations are of culpable cooperation for negligence and imprudence. According to the investigators, it would not have been supervised on the implementation of the project, underestimating the hydraulic risk and accepting changes to the original project. In particular, the successful tenderer would have proposed a substantial modification: the initial project provided for 32 micropal under the plinths of the foundation of the viaducts, to prevent the risk of undermining, given the construction inside the river of the Trionto river. The micropals would have been reduced from 32 to 15, without adequate consideration of hydraulic risk.
