«We will work on a bill on the principles of territorial planning, a tool for which the National Institute of Urban Planning has also expressed the need». This was announced by Senator Nicola Irto (Pd), urban planner and member of the VIII Commission of the Senate, speaking in Florence at the meeting “A law of principles for the useful plan”, as part of the 22nd edition of Urbanpromo. Irto highlighted the need for a stable and coherent vision of territorial governance, capable of integrating urban planning, environment, mobility, housing policies and social cohesion, recalling how the current regulatory framework generates inequalities and uncertainties for local authorities. Urban regeneration, he added, must be considered a public policy and not a set of building interventions. Among the proposals put forward, there is also the establishment of a multi-year national fund for regeneration, with a portion allocated to the most fragile territories. «The country – he concluded – needs modern plans, real intellectual infrastructures to support the growth of cities».
