Inaugurated in India the first struggled railway bridgedesigned and treated in supervision by Italferr, the engineering company of the FS Group. The Anji Khad bridge is a unique workiconic and strategic that will significantly contribute to raising the reliability standards of the infrastructure and improve connections in a territorial and international key. The bridge represents a work that has no precedents in the country. An unprecedented engineering challenge, considering the morphology of the territory and the extremely demanding conditions given the characteristics of the Anji river that flows in a deep throat with sub-vertical walls, in an area characterized by very strong winds.

The Indian Authorities, the representatives of the Indian Railway and Italferr railway manager, was present at the inauguration event. With a length of 725 meters and a height of 196, the bridge features an rolled section of 473 meters, including a central span of 290 and an asymmetrical support tower. This unique design makes it the first rolled railway bridge in India and stands out for being among the most ambitious and demanding projects of the entire Udhampur-Sinagar-Baramulla railway line, designed to connect the Kashmir with the north-western borders of India.

The asymmetrical design of the struck bridge was strategically chosen to facilitate most of the construction on one of the ends and thus allow their construction. An approach based on the evaluation of the available space and the stability of the slope. The innovative method of intervention guaranteed structural integrity and simplified the construction processes, demonstrating a profound understanding of the functional needs of the project and local conditions.

The value of the investment of the work amounts to 70 million dollars. The Anji Khad Bridge project was awarded the Award of Merit in the Bridge/Tunnel category of the Enr Global Best Projects 2024. This prestigious recognition, assigned by an international jury, which examined over 120 nominations, testifies to the innovation and engineering quality of the Italferr project, positioning it among the best infrastructures globally. The Enr Global Best Projects Awards, awarded annually by the Engineering News-Record (Enr) magazine, in fact reward the most relevant infrastructure projects worldwide, evaluating the candidates based on security, innovation and sustainability criteria.

Italferr has been present in India since 2014 and continues to be engaged in various strategic projects. In addition to the Anji Khad bridge, Italferr is still engaged in joint venture with Ayesa also on the “Engagement of General Consultant for Delhhaziabad-Meerut RRTS Corridor” project, a work of a value of 15 million euros started in 2019 and which involves the creation of an 82 km railway corridor, which will constitute the first rapid regional transport of India and, with a maximum speed of maximum speed of 160 km/h, he will connect the capital of thei with the cities of Meerut and Ghaziabad.

The ongoing activities include the supply of the design services for the new Rishikesh-Karamprayang railway line, with the Himalaya tunnel in Uttarakhand, in the north of the country and the project management services for the metropolitan lines of Kanpur and Agra, two of the largest industrial cities in the north of India. Italferr has also affirmed its leadership also in the Mass Transit, with the award of contracts related to the creation of two metropolitan lines in Mumbai, line 2 and line 7 inaugurated in January 2023.
