«Dear president of Italia Viva senator Matteo RenziWe write to you as supporters and activists of Italia Viva Calabria to express our profound disagreement regarding the president’s resignation Nunzia Paese and to ask you to intervene so that these resignations are rejected, with the aim of resuming a democratic political path, shared and rooted in the founding values of our party”: thus begins the open letter sent by the Renzian regional leaders (the signatories are Raffaele Suppa, Anna Rosa, Sofia Ludowika Tripodi, Nadia Iannazzo, Daniela Ventura, Massimiliano Vaccaro).
«So much dedication amidst the difficulties»
«In recent years, Nunzia Paese, despite a thousand difficulties, has embodied the soul of Italia Viva in the Calabrian territory with dedication and passion. He worked tirelessly, across the entire regional territory, to build a party close to the citizens, made up of active participation, constructive discussion and freedom of thought. He promoted a political model that opposes oligarchic methods and top-down decisions, giving voice and space to those who believe in politics as a service to the common good. We have learned that a commissioner has already been appointed without even taking the time necessary to make careful reflection and start a calm discussion on the problems opened by the outgoing president with her letter of resignation».
For the six signatories «the commissionership would represent a step backwards, risking compromising the tiring and courageous work carried out over all these years. Calabria needs a party that is an expression of its peculiarities and that knows how to interpret local challenges without giving up the democratic and inclusive principles that distinguish us. We cannot accept decisions made from above! Parties are places for the exercise of democracy, par excellence, and any decision that does not base its reasons on this assumption risks calling into question the tiring process of rooting and growing our party in the territory and in the suburbs”.
«No to perverse logic»
«In Calabria – add the members of Italia Viva – we do not need the party to be harnessed by perverse logic, packages of cards or votes, chasing a consensus that is not a crystalline expression of transparency and freedom: many already know how to do well this profession. We cannot emulate these logics and, due to the novelty we represent, if we do not propose ourselves as real change we will not be credible and authoritative interlocutors especially towards the younger generations. Everyone expects us to make a difference compared to the state of confusion and conditioning that politics and parties experience in their daily contradictions. Please don’t disappoint this hope! We therefore ask you to consider the importance of this moment and to act to re-establish the dialogue, rejecting the resignation of the President, lawyer. Nunzia Paese and allowing her to continue leading our political project in Calabria. We are certain that a sincere and constructive discussion can strengthen our party and restore impetus to the process of growth and rooting in the territory.
