Akademia Sant’Anna returned to success in the first return leg of the Regular Season against Csi Clai Imola (1-3: 25-17, 15-25, 22-25, 13-25). This time, the land of Romagna smiles at coach Bonafede’s SuperGirls who – at PalaRuggi – after having surrendered the first set to the blue and whites, forcefully return to the match and with character close a very delicate match in their favor, both for the value of the opponent than for the need to immediately redeem last week’s misstep. This is the ninth victory of the season for the Messina team which is once again at the top of the table, given the simultaneous defeat in the tie-break in San Giovanni against Costa Volpino.

As announced on the eve, it is not easy to get the better of an opponent of good overall quality, square behind and against whom it was necessary to deploy the right amount of patience, aggression and regain the best polish of the central Dalila Modestino, MVP, Top Spiker and Blocker of the match.

In the first set, a positive start for the Sicilians (5-8), who came back and then broke away thanks to the good moment of Pomili and Ravazzolo towards the middle of the set (16-13). The Modestino-Babatunde change does not have the desired effects; Ravazzolo and Bulovic extend to +5 (20-15), before closing with Stival’s series (25-17). Also in the second set, Akademia starts ahead and, this time, manages to maintain the accumulated gap (3-7, 4-10), The revitalized Modestino is unstoppable and, halfway through the set, the blocks of Mason and Olivotto allow them to maintain the +6 advantage (10-16). Rossetto is a guarantee, both in the second line and forward; for Imola there is little to counter. Modestino, Diop and Rossetto herself increase the gap, making it unbridgeable (11-22). The Irpinia power plant will close the deal; defenseless Imola. Third set more balanced; Messina manages to take a double lead, held until Rossetto and Modestino broke away (17-21). Imola goes back up with Bulovic, Messina responds with Olivotto, Rossetto and Modestino, also winning the third set. The last set consecrates the Sicilians, who are decidedly more relaxed than in the previous phases of the match. The +7 signed by Olivotto (2-9) is almost a sentence. Imola fails to react, loses its edge at the start of the match and Messina extends (6-15). Caliendo tries to shuffle the cards, but Messina’s tortoise effect is devastating. At the end of the set, there will be twelve points of separation between the two teams.

In the starting six, for Imola coach Caliendo lines up Rizzieri as director, Stival as opposite, Bacchilega and Ravazzolo as central players, Pomili and Bulovic in place 4, Mastrilli as libero. In the post-match, Aurora Rossetto’s statements: “We expected a tough match; we’ve been talking about it all week. We were good at taking it home, even though the first set didn’t go well. I have to admit that Imola is a really good team; he never gave up and it showed. I don’t think the first set was a consequence of San Giovanni’s defeat. We had already reset everything this week. We simply weren’t clear in the decisive moments. Then, although the opponents continued to fight, we were more determined in attack.”
Championship divided into two sections, even if round results are missing: “Despite the numbers, the differences are not so clearly seen on the pitch. No opponent in the group can be taken lightly.”
