Simone Bolelli and Andrea Vavassori reach the semi-final of the men’s doubles at Roland Garros, returning among the best four pairs of the Parisian tournament two years after the last time.
At the end of a hard-fought match, the Azzurri overcame the Czech Petr Nouza and the Austrian Neil Oberleitner, one of the surprises of this edition of the French Slam, coming from behind with a score of 6-7, 6-1, 7-6.
Comeback and decisive tie-break
After losing the first set in a tie-break, Bolelli and Vavassori reacted with authority, dominating the second set 6-1 and bringing the match back into balance.
The third set was resolved once again in a tie-break, where the Italian couple managed to prevail 12-10 after a long battle, thus gaining the pass to the semi-final.
Objective to repeat the final in 2024
For the two Italians this is an important result in a tournament that had already seen them protagonists in 2024, when they managed to reach the final.
Now Bolelli and Vavassori will try to repeat that feat by facing in the semi-final the winning couple of the match between Marcel Granollers and Horacio Zeballos on one side and Hugo Nys and Édouard Roger-Vasselin on the other.
