And, finally, the road collapsed! Unfortunately, what has been feared for a long time has happened. A stretch of road that goes from the Calia neighborhood towards the Casturi district, in the Nicastro Nord area, collapsed last night under the weight of heavy rains and the explosive fury of the Piazza torrent that flows nearby. Because of this, several families are now isolated from the surrounding neighborhood. Chronicle of an announced disaster, one might well say! In fact, for years the whole area has been affected by the infamous Calia landslide, to deal with which no serious environmental protection intervention has ever been carried out, in order to slow down the advance of hydrogeological instability. In fact, the entire hilly area has always been in decay and abandonment. The hydrogeological instability that has been discussed since time immemorial was and is perfectly visible everywhere throughout the area inhabited by dozens and dozens of families: the road that climbs the hill along the river, for a good stretch, has no guardrail; the asphalt is full of potholes and obvious injuries.
