The families residing in three buildings in the San Nicola area, in Belvedere Marittimo on the Cosenza Tyrrhenian Sea, were evicted as a precaution due to a landslide. A significant landslide affected the slope downstream of the houses, causing the collapse of portions of the courtyard areas and damage to the structures. Mayor Vincenzo Cascini ordered the abandonment of the buildings and a ban on access until safety conditions were restored. The institution is taking steps to find them temporary accommodation. The technical inspection carried out by technicians from the municipality, firefighters, civil protection and local police ascertained a situation of instability on the collapsed slope, with consequent danger of further landslides. The mayor speaks of “huge damage” throughout the municipal territory as a consequence of the wave of bad weather in recent days. «The situation of instability recorded in the San Nicola area is common to many other mountain districts», said Cascini.
