Charles Leclerc on Ferrari wins the British Grand Prix, ninth round of the F1 World Championship. The Monegasque prevailed over George Russell (Mercedes) and Lewis Hamilton (Ferrari) in an arrival under the safety car, which came out following the accident of Max Verstappen, who hit the wall while he was in third position. Ninth career victory for Leclerc, who returns to the top step of the podium after the 2024 Austin Grand Prix. Unlucky Andrea Kimi Antonelli (Mercedes): the leader of the drivers’ standings was in second place while he was quickly moving up on Leclerc, but a suspension problem during the 41st lap forced him to stop and lose positions. At the finish line the Bolognese was 16th, following a five-second penalty for track limits.
Leclerc’s joy: “I hope to continue like this”
“It’s incredible. The ending wasn’t what I would have dreamed of, but to win after the last few weekends is beautiful. Already yesterday I felt like I had found a feeling again and today we confirmed it and I’m very happy about this. With Kimi (Antonelli ed.) it would have been a feat to keep first place.” Thus Charles Leclerc after the success in the British Grand Prix, the ninth round of the F1 World Championship. “After Monaco the feeling wasn’t there, then in Barcelona I made a mistake and had some problems. Here I managed to put everything together, I hope to be able to continue like this in the next races”, adds the Monegasque.
Hamilton: “We are doing a phenomenal job”
“Congratulations to Leclerc and the team for the great result. Today I didn’t have much pace and I struggled with the balance of the car. I don’t know what happened to Kimi, but we are doing a phenomenal job. There is work to do to close the gap.”
