“War has returned to shed blood in the world, not far from us.” The President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella, said this, speaking at the Quirinale at the ceremony for the awarding of honors to the Order of the Order of the Republic conferred “motu proprio” by the Head of State to citizens distinguished for acts of heroism and civil commitment.
Today in the world, the head of state added, “two opposing ways” of thinking are confronted: that of those who are “only interested in their own interests and that of those” who want to share opportunities. We must not resign ourselves, on the contrary we must have faith.”
“Your stories convey trust and hope in a time in which we need trust and hope”, underlined Mattarella adding that “our country is rich in solidarity. The choice not to ignore the needs of others makes the institutions stronger too. Particularly in our time it is necessary to break down the walls of fear and indifference, the temptation of isolation”.
