In response to the “deficiency of institutional information” that is accompanying the referendums of 8 and 9 June, the mayor Fabio Signorettawho guides the Municipality of Jonadihas adopted a directive that aims to authorize the performance of information events and public comparisons also on Saturday 7 June, falling within the so -called electoral silence. “I do not feel at all the one who challenges the state – said the first citizen, exponent of +Europe -. If anything, today, I consider myself among the last to really defend its foundations: participation, pluralism, transparency. Give voice to all positions is a civic duty, not a violation. It is our Constitution that asked us not to remain silent in the decisive moments”.
The directive therefore intends to allow the opportunity to use municipal public spaces for any civic initiatives open to the comparison between committees or groups of opinion with different positions on the referendum, provided that the principles of impartiality and neutrality are respected. “Authorizing public moments of confrontation also on the eve of the vote is not a provocation – he added – but a due act. It is a gesture of democratic responsibility to counter an unacceptable condition: millions of people are called to vote without having been clearly explained to them what is at stake. The problem is not dissent, which is legitimate. The problem is that the minimum knowledge is missing to choose, even just to choose not to participate”.
The measure, of which the first citizen of Jonadi intended to take all responsibility, falls within an administrative action based on the protection of fundamental rights, even in the most difficult contexts: “It is a strong gesture – he concludes – but it is a gesture in the name of democracy”.
