A new case of alleged suspicious death it adds to the four that occurred recently in cardiac surgery department of the Papardo hospital in Messinaon which the inspection activity initiated by the Peloritana Public Prosecutor’s Office is underway. The death is that of 60 year old from Capo d’Orlando, Donatella Canfora reported with a complaint by his family. The death dates back to October 2nd after the woman, who had arrived at the emergency room at the Messina hospital a few weeks earlier, underwent coronary artery bypass surgery. According to what the family’s lawyer reports, a lawyer Massimiliano Fabiothe relatives would have received reassurances on the excellent success of the operation, performed on 24 September, and on the immediate post-operative recovery, actually finding the lady’s good condition during their visits to the hospital.
However, the situation suddenly worsened on October 1st, with breathing difficulties experienced by the woman who died the following day. Sudden respiratory crisis was the response that the doctors would have communicated to the family members, in disbelief and shock at what had happened, who consequently asked for all the necessary investigations to be carried out. «The news that has spread in recent weeks regarding the hypothesis of the alleged spread of a killer bacterium in hospitals, on which a specific investigation has been launched by the Public Prosecutor’s Office of Messina, leads us to urge all the investigations that will be deemed most appropriate, in the feared hypothesis that it may have been an infection contracted in the same hospital environment that caused the lady’s death”, comments the lawyer Fabio.
The complaint therefore requested, in addition to the possible execution of the autopsy examination, the seizure of the medical records and the acquisition of all the health documentation relating to the woman’s access to the hospital with 118, the cardiac surgery and the subsequent post-operative course.
