Another seven families can finally live in a dignified apartment, equipped with all comforts and leave behind the suffering of the years spent in shacks, thanks to the virtuous path that the Commissariat’s Redevelopment Structure led by the President of the Region Renato Schifani is pursuing on a daily basis.
This morning the sub-commissioner for sanitation Santi Trovato and the mayor of Messina Federico Basile handed over the keys to the new accommodation to the families residing in the barracks in via Appennini, with the hope of the beginning of a new peaceful life. Present at a moment which as always is punctuated by emotions and applause were the president of ArisMe Fabrizio Gemelli and the members of the ArisMe Board of Directors Santina Manganaro and Alessandro La Cava, and the ArisMe staff who every day with commitment and availability follow all the phases that lead to the assignment of the houses.
After the transfer of the families to the new homes it will be possible to proceed with the demolition of the slum in Via Appennini and the subsequent redevelopment.
THE OTHER DEMOLITIONS
At the same time, demolitions continue in other rehabilitation areas where families have already left their shacks, allowing the areas to be reclaimed. As regards the construction site in via Taormina, the assignment of accommodation to those entitled continues.
EXEMPTION FOR FAMILIES WITH FRAGILITY
After the keys to the new homes were handed over to eleven families in October, in recent days a home was assigned by way of exception to a family with a very fragile member. Although the latter family unit was not entitled to accommodation due to lack of requirements, the sub-commissioner Santi Trovato took into consideration, with great sensitivity, the presence of a minor with a serious pathology and signed the exemption provision. In the assignment of properties in the individual areas to be cleared away, absolute priority is given to families with very fragile families.
The situation of five other families in via Taormina who are not entitled to a house is different (because they are already assigned housing or because they did not document their presence in the shack before 2018), for which a solution will be found with the social services department of the Municipality of Messina which deals with the housing emergency.
