A campaign of diagnostic investigations on the Resurrection of Lazzaro of Caravaggio, one of the absolute masterpieces of the Lombard painter, kept at the Maria Accascina Regional Museum of Messina. The analyzes, scheduled from 6 to 10 October, have the aim of monitoring the state of conservation of the painting, verifying any alteration phenomena both in the pictorial layers and in the support canvas.
The project, financed by the Regional Department of Cultural Heritage, is entrusted to the Merlini-Strto restoration studio in Rome, which boasts a long experience with the Caravaggesque works. The diagnostic checks will be carried out with ultraviolet, infrared radiation and X -rays by the engineer Claudio Falcucci, among the highest experts of the master’s pictorial techniques.
The handling of the painting will be curated by the company Giuseppe Inguaggiato, while the management of the works is entrusted to the technical staff of the museum, including the historians of the art Elena Ascente and Donatella Spanish, the architect Daniele Guarnera and the restorer Giovanna Farsaci.
To allow the activity without completely closing access, the Caravaggio room will remain open with contingent entrances. Visitors will however be able to admire theAdoration of the shepherds And, in some moments, having the opportunity to dialogue with the professionals engaged in the analyzes to receive explanations and details at the ongoing work.
