Ierin ended in the Aula Magna of the rectorate of the University of Messina the second day of events dedicated to the 70th anniversary of the historic Messina Conference of 1955. The initiative, entitled “Messina Europa, 1955-2025”, anticipated L ‘Inauguration of the 477th academic year of the University, which will be held tomorrow at the Vittorio Emanuele Theater with the presence of the President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella.
The rector Giovanna Spatari underlined the importance of linking academic events to historical memory: “The 70th anniversary of the Messina Conference represents an opportunity to reflect on the role of this city in the European construction process”. The main focus of the day was dedicated to European public goods and strategies to consolidate A European public space, themes that remain crucial to guarantee cohesion and social well -being.
Among the protagonists of the event, prof. Alessio Lo Giudice highlighted the topicality of the “spirit of Messina” and the need to recover it to face transnational challenges, while Prof. Lina Panella drew attention to the importance of a shared European public arena, already discussed In 1955, to bring Europe closer to citizens.
The event ended with a round table that summarized the reflections accrued in two days of debates, consolidating Messina as a historical reference point for European integration.
