Summer and autumn 2025 in Messina will be in the name of culture, thanks to the dense program of events promoted by the Messina Foundation for culture. From 1 July to 6 December concerts, festivals, conferences and shows will alternate that will offer the city opportunities for meeting and reflection on music, theater, cinema and esoteric arts.
The review The concerts at Monte di Pietà will open with the Argentine tango of the Trio El Gauche Tognola and will continue with the concert by Sissy Castrogiovanni and the performance of East Siculo, which will propose the project fragments of Mediterranean culture. Among the most anticipated moments, the Biedermeier Quartet will propose the transcriptions for flute and trio of arches of Mozart’s works, while the Duo Paganini will stage the living room. The musical program will be enriched in September with Candelive, a choral concert directed by Giovanni Mundo, and with the special event Horcynus Orca, a tribute to Stefano D’Arrigo’s novel with the music of Marco Zàppia.
At the same time, the Festival of the Arts and Thought will start, created in collaboration with the University of Messina. The cycle of meetings will open on July 15 with the Conference of Marcello Veneziani entitled Love, bridge towards the inheritance and the future. It will continue with interventions on very topical issues, such as the artificial intelligence dealt with by Sebastiano Gangemi, and with the contribution of important personality, including Carlo Cottarelli who will present his latest book without turns of words. The show dedicated to Archimedes, played by Mario Incudine with the direction of Alessio Pizzach, and the show conference by Luigi de Magistris dedicated to the Italian Constitution, also of great interest.
Attention to the suburbs will materialize with two theatrical productions. From 15 to 16 July, the Aldo Moro park will host Shakespeare’s midsummer dream of a midsummer night, directed by Luca Fiorino. From 25 July to 7 August, the icaro traveling show – Salvatore Arena’s last flight will reach peripheral neighborhoods and squares, including the cloister of San Placido I will Caloner, the square of Torre Faro, the amphitheater villa of Sperone and the urban park for the arts of Camaro Superiore, on board a modern “Carro di Tespi”.
Starting from 13 September, the church of Santa Maria Alemanna will host the cycle of esoteric articles, which will explore the so -called esoteric culture. The project includes five appointments conducted by Elio Crifò, who will deal with themes such as the arcane world of tarot cards, i-ching: the DNA of the soul, the mandalas, psychosynthesis and astrology. Each evening will see the participation of guests such as Carlo Bozzelli, Daniela Renore and Paolo Grimaldi.
The program will be enriched with numerous cinematographic events. From 25 to 27 July, the Forti Castieri Messina will become the hall of the Zancle Film Festival, which will propose a selection of independent international films. From 2 to 5 October they will be held scriptopia, a festival dedicated to film writing, while from 29 November to 6 December the Messina Opera Film Festival will arrive, distributed between the Vittorio Emanuele theater, the Laudamo room and the Lux and Apollo rooms. Between September and October, the city will also host the International Film Festival of Messina, curated by 8 Road Film.
Finally, the Messina Expo Arte 2025 Biennale, scheduled from 26 September to 23 November, will aim to enhance the territorial identity and local artistic expressions, continuing the path started with the first edition of Expo Arte.
