The first regional round of the FISPES Sicily Club Championships has ended, also valid as the third round of the FISPES Sicily 2026 Grand Prix, which saw Messina transform into the beating heart of regional paralympic athletics.
Two intense days, characterized by sport, inclusion and sharing, which attracted over 50 athletes from the provinces of Ragusa, Syracuse, Gela, Ravanusa, Palermo and numerous other centers in Sicily.
The Polisportiva Contesse actively participated in the event, enriching its staff with two new athletes: the cross-country skier Francesco Calabrò, originally from Barcellona Pozzo di Gotto, and the sprinter Calogero Sanfilippo, from Licata. The classifications held on Saturday represented an important moment of growth for the regional Paralympic movement, allowing the entry of new energy and new talents.
Among the most significant results of the weekend, the achievement of Francesco Calabrò stands out, as he set the new Italian record in the 5000 meters category T38, confirming the technical value of the event and the quality of the athletes present.
The event was made possible thanks to the precious organizational collaboration between the Polisportiva Contesse and the Polisportiva ASPET Siracusa, as well as the constant support of the FISPES Sicilia delegation led by the regional delegate Giovanni Ciprì, whose presence represented a point of reference for clubs and athletes.
The final balance is extremely positive: an event that was able to combine competitive spirit, participation and growth of the Sicilian Paralympic movement, leaving a legacy of prestigious results, new sporting perspectives and a strong message of inclusion through sport.
