The seizure of weapons and drugs carried out by the police resulted from an extraordinary territorial control service which also led to two arrests. During two different checks, a 25-year-old with no criminal record and a 53-year-old already known to the police ended up in handcuffs. Under lock and key about two kilos of marijuana but also 300 grams of cocaine, three pistols with abraded serial number and numerous cartridges.
The seizure confirms the circulation in the city of significant quantities of narcotic substances, an alarm raised some time ago, but also the dangerous presence of clandestine guns and ammunition.
Drugs and weapons were discovered last Thursday as part of the extraordinary checks aimed at combating drug dealing and trafficking carried out by the carabinieri of the Central and Southern Companies and the Radiomobile Unit.
As part of these services, which were carried out in various city districts, on Thursday afternoon a patrol of soldiers from the Radiomobile Unit stopped a car driven by a twenty-five year old in Camaro. The military’s particularly nervous attitude to control convinced them to deepen the investigation by also searching the car. Over two kilos of marijuana were found inside, divided into several packages. The bag with the drugs was placed on the seat of the car and immediately caught the attention of the soldiers. The young man was also found in possession of the sum of 480 euros which was seized because it was believed to be the probable proceeds of the illicit activity. The twenty-five-year-old was then arrested for possession for the purpose of dealing drugs.
In the evening, another carabinieri patrol engaged in drug checks in the Mangialupi district searched the home of a 53-year-old known to the police. In this case weapons and drugs were found and seized. In particular, during the search the carabinieri discovered 3 semi-automatic pistols with abraded serial number and around 200 cartridges of various calibers in a wardrobe. Approximately 350 grams of marijuana, 340 grams of cocaine and various material for cutting and packaging narcotic substances also ended up under lock and key. The 56-year-old was arrested for possession of narcotics for the purpose of dealing and for possession of illegal weapons. Both the 25-year-old and the 56-year-old were transferred to prison to await questioning by the judge.
The seized weapons and drugs will be handed over to the Messina Ris carabinieri for ballistic and laboratory analysis.
