Four boys were stopped by the police after they climbed the Torre Faro pylon this afternoon. The military proceeded with the recognition and the 4 boys will probably be charged, given that access to the Pylon is now prohibited. A stunt that risks costing dearly and which was also filmed by some passers-by who immortalized the “climb” of the four young people with their cell phones.
Just in recent weeks the Municipality closed the tender and entrusted the maintenance work on the base of the Pylon and everything around it, a step which could in fact begin the first concrete intervention on one of the most recognizable symbols of the Strait, closed to the public for years and marked by a progressive state of abandonment. The company Presti srl of Terme Vigliatore will carry out this intervention at a cost of just over 88 thousand euros. A preliminary and indispensable step, designed to stop degradation and restore decorum and safety to the area at the base of the structure. In recent years, in fact, wooden fences, gates and metal structures have suffered vandalism and damage, while spontaneous vegetation has grown out of control, making some places messy and potentially dangerous.
The project includes extraordinary maintenance operations, the replacement of compromised elements and an overall reorganization of the spaces. The Municipality had foreseen an expense of 111 thousand euros and it was the technical offices of Palazzo Zanca who defined the necessary interventions following environmental sustainability criteria, with the use of natural materials and minimally invasive construction techniques, to protect the land and the landscape context surrounding the Pylon. All this while waiting for what remains to be the broader recovery project which looks at the reopening and full valorisation of the site. From the latest news it emerged that we will have to wait for the restyling of the Morandi towers before we can return to planning the Pilone tower, at the moment there is no definitive project or financing.
