“I wasn’t sure if I had hit a person, I only realized it later.” This is the justification given by a 52-year-old arrested on charges of having run over a worker without stopping to help while he was carrying out work along the motorway near the Bordonaro viaduct, in Messina.
The hospitalized worker, the car tracked by the Polstrada
The worker reporting the work was rescued by colleagues and taken to the emergency room. He suffered various injuries and is still hospitalized. In the meantime, the traffic police tracked down the car that hit him, thus arriving at the 52-year-old from Merì accused of failure to provide assistance.
Arrest validated, residence obligation
Yesterday the man, assisted by the lawyer Carolina Stroscio, appeared before judge Rita Sergi. The judge validated the arrest and, accepting the arguments of the lawyer Stroscio and since the man’s driving license was suspended and the vehicle was seized, she applied the obligation to stay in the municipality of residence and the obligation to report to the police, setting him free.
