The scenario changes again regarding the defendants of the “Follow me” operation, on a prostitution ring in the city. The third criminal section of the Court of Cassation has in fact ruled on the appeal verdict that was issued against the Colombian Maria Yamileny Cordero Gonzalez, the Messina Giuseppe Calapai and the Colombian Jesus Alberto Ramirez Gonzalez. The lawyers Antonio Spiccia and Nino Cacia will assist them. The judges annulled the appeal sentence for counts “A” and “B” without postponement for all three defendants, due to the “inadmissibility of the criminal action”; then they declared the so-called irrevocability of the sentence for Calapai only for count “C”, referring to a new ruling from the Court of Appeal of Messina only with regard to the extent of the sentence, given that two counts against Calapai were “cancelled” together with the other two defendants (“redetermination of the sanctioning treatment”). According to the accusation, Calapai would have found young women to prostitute them in houses in via Carlo Botta and Fata Morgana, and would also have taken care of the maintenance of the buildings and also established the amount of rent that the prostitutes would have to pay. The matter was framed at the time by the investigating judge Simona Finocchiaro in her precautionary custody order, where she spoke of «… professionalism demonstrated by the suspects and the continuous operation in the sector, which can also be easily carried out in other properties and cities (including Syracuse, as well as Messina), as well as the knowledge of the territory, the existence of numerous contacts at a national level with prostitutes and trans, the widespread organization of the criminal activity, the knowledge of the mechanisms for finding prostitutes and clients, as well as the permanence of links between the suspects”.
