It aired this morning on Good morning Region of TG3 an in-depth analysis dedicated to two jewels of Messina’s historical heritage: Forte Gonzaga and the Church of San Giovanni di Malta. Rai journalist Eleonora Mastromarino produced the report directly from the stands of the sixteenth-century fort, symbol of the city’s fortified system.

Guest was the Councilor for Cultural Policies and Tourism, Enzo Caruso, who illustrated the restoration project which will involve the powerful military structure and the broader process of valorisation of the Messina fortifications. Caruso underlined the importance of the participation of the Municipality of Messina in the INTERREG program Italy–Maltafocused on the cultural and tourist connections that unite the island and the city of the Strait: from the fortifications commissioned by Charles V, to the links with the Knights of Malta, up to the routes dedicated to Caravaggio.

Gianluigi Smilare, representative of the Gonzaga cultural association, who has been involved in promoting the fort for years and retraced its history and architectural peculiarities, also spoke in the report. The second part of the focus highlighted the Church of San Giovanni di Malta, a treasure chest of art and spirituality, thanks to the contribution of Francesca Mangano, president of the AURA Association, and Caterina Ferrara, who guided the cameras to discover the treasures kept inside.
