Palazzo dei Leoni presented to the Municipality of Messina the proposal for the executive project for the redevelopment of the external areas of the building that houses the State Conservatory of music “Arcangelo Corelli” and the Quasimodo section of the “Minutoli” Institute, in the heart of the city.
The technical-economic feasibility project (PFTE), currently awaiting assessment for obtaining the necessary loan, was developed in the context of the Strategic Territorial Planning tool called Fua (Functional Urban Area) for the integrated development of the Urban Area of Messina and its hinterland, through interventions financed by the European Fund of Regional Development-FESR Regional Program Sicily 2021-2027. The goal is to redevelop the degraded areas, promoting the ecological and digital transition, improving public services and strengthening the socio-economic tissue.
In the elaborate drawn up by the Metropolitan City of Messina, which provides for an investment of about 2.5 million euros, numerous redevelopment interventions are planned including the music park, an outdoor space for cultural and musical events equipped with an auditorium of about 150 places, a 50 -seater “Odeon” and seven thematic kiosks in addition to the creation of equipped green areas and the “spacesogazziarte”, with open -air artistic installations that They favor dialogue between art and nature by offering places of relaxation and aggregation. The redevelopment of an area intended for sports and recreational activities, with adequate and accessible structures, and the arrangement of the parking area existing with the construction of a new driveway of service to improve the accessibility and safety of the entire sector, also scheduled. A central role will be assigned to environmental sustainability through the use of land-entering techniques, the use of draining materials, systems for the collection and reuse of rainwater and the planting of native species with low allergenic impact and favorable to natural pollination. The project is not limited to the physical transformation of the spaces, but also aims to enhance the social and cultural capital of the territory, with the creation of exhibition spaces, workshops, meeting places and initiatives aimed at the active participation of citizens and the enhancement of local culture. “We are planning an important urban redevelopment intervention – said the Metropolitan mayor of Messina, Federico Basile – which aims to transform the external areas of the building that houses the State Conservatory of Archangel Corelli music and the Quasimodo section of the Minutoli Institute in a functional public space, open to culture, sport and socialization, with particular attention to environmental sustainability”.
