Messina Street Food Fest, crowd and solidarity in Piazza Cairoli: taste meets sharing LIVE ON RTP FROM 8.15pm

The enthusiasm around the seventh edition of the Messina Street Food Fest, underway in Piazza Cairoli, is growing more and more, which also yesterday saw an extraordinary participation of the public, confirming itself as an event capable of bringing people together in the name of taste, culture and inclusion.

In the heart of the city, the 51 houses of the food village offer a unique journey through the best street food specialities, between tradition and novelty, with proposals from all over Italy. An opportunity to discover new flavors and rediscover the most loved ones, in a warm and lively atmosphere.

The public is the protagonist not only in taste, but also in the collective experience: the square is animated by a great atmosphere of celebration and sharing, thanks to a rich program of live shows, artistic performances and music for all ages.

The solidarity show cooking programs, which combine culinary art with solidarity, were also very popular in these first days: the proceeds and initiatives support CIRS Casa Famiglia, Canteen di S. Antonio, ABC – Amici dei Bambini in Corsia Onlus and the Italian Red Cross – Messina Committee.

Yesterday the festival also joined the International Day against Poverty and for the Homeless, through an agreement with the Department of Social Policies of the Municipality of Messina and the social cooperative Medihospes: numerous portions of street food were delivered directly to the homeless, both on the street and in reception facilities.

Street food will be broadcast live on Rtp from 8.15pm to 9.15pm. Salvatore De Maria and Sasà Salvaggio, who joined the Tgs-Rtp group a few months ago, will host.

Shows:

11.30am – “Cotti e Suonati” by Alfredo Reni

6.15pm – Parade of stilt walkers among the houses of the food village.

7.00 pm – Show by the Joculares “CircumNaviGusto”

8.00 pm – DJ Set with Fabrizio Duca and Alfredo Reni

9.30 pm – Live concert by the band “Gli Approssimativi”

11.30pm – DJ Set with Fabrizio Duca and Alfredo Reni

The cooking shows

7.00 pm – Show cooking in solidarity with Roberta Caruso (from Bake Off Italia) and the master ice cream maker Daniela Bonansinga. The recipes proposed: OVUM – The evolution of the egg, from a simple shape to a complex creation and for ice cream, Foam.

9.00 pm – Show cooking in solidarity with chef Giuseppe Stilo and IIS teachers Antonello, Nino Iannazzo and Giuseppe Porco, who will prepare, respectively, I Tesori di Reggio, a treasure chest of swordfish stuffed with aubergines, Slow Food presidium caciocavallo, brushed with Tropea red onion gel and smoked bergamot oil. Autumn verses is ice cream with a ‘Nobel Story’ shot.

Opening hours of the event:

Saturday 18th from 11.00am to 3.00pm and from 6.00pm to 1.00am, Sunday 19th non-stop from 11.00am to 1.00am.

Useful information: To improve participation in the event, the ‘Fosso’ municipal car parks; in via La Farina and the multi-storey Cavallotti, remain open 24 hours a day.
