“Today every conceivable limit has been exceeded.” With these words, the municipal councilor Roberto Cicala (Municipal Police and Public Security) denounced on social media an episode that turns the spotlight on the management of public land in Messina. According to reports, a restaurant in the center would have illegally occupied some blue stalls, arranging tables and chairs for lunch, thus preventing the regular parking of cars.
The checks were triggered by the report of a citizen who, finding himself unable to park, alerted the Municipal Police of Messina.
“Thanks to the citizen who promptly telephoned, allowing us to immediately restore legality”, wrote Cicala, praising the timely intervention of the Commercial Police agents.
The restaurant was fined and closure proceedings were initiated against it for five days, as required by the municipal regulation on the illegal occupation of public land for commercial purposes. «Respect for the rules is fundamental for this administration – reiterated the councilor -. Nobody prohibits anything in compliance with the rules and competition must be fair.”
Finally, Cicala recalled that the administration has already introduced concessions for regular activities: «We have reduced the fee for occupying public land for restaurants, kiosks and markets by 50% until 2028. But only for those who respect the rules.”
