“The Calabrian Emergency-Urgency system (PS and 118) is in total disrepair! A real health disaster! PSs overflowing with patients who for hours and hours (the luckiest ones get through in 5/6/7 hours!!) await a medical response, ambulances queuing in the PS like customers in supermarkets who have only one checkout open! Talking about the right to health with the Calabrians seems like a mockery, a dream that in times of need very often it becomes a nightmare! The worst of nightmares! Who does nothing? Or rather pretends to solve the problems!”. This is what the SMI Asp Catanzaro provincial delegate, Dr. Saverio Ferrari, states in a note.
“Are there a lack of doctors in the emergency rooms and hospital departments? They are sought abroad at low cost – continues Ferrari – but they are not enough to cover or even mitigate the problems that all remain and are festering! Structural solutions? Nothing, not even a proposal but the usual justification “I found a disaster”! Maybe it’s true but four years have been of no use! Far from it!! So we start with the construction of new hospitals, community homes, community hospitals! But when will they be in all these new health facilities? finished, if they are, who will work on it? Which nurses? Questions, or rather, million-dollar questions, let’s build them and then we’ll see while the Calabrians patiently wait in line for a specialist visit, or maybe an uncomfortable stretcher!

Meanwhile, according to Ferrari, “the ambulances leave very often, almost always even in code red with nurses and drivers for targets 30/40/50 even 60 minutes away in the province and outside the province! Maybe from Lamezia for Vibo, Tropea or from Soveria Mannelli for Feroleto Antico, Gimigliano, Amantea or from Taverna for Carlopoli, Decollatura etc etc! A coming and going of ambulances “running” from one side to the other of Calabria, rightly respecting the speed limits and the safety of the personnel on board, thus arriving at the targets mentioned above and it could not be otherwise! And if in the meantime there is a death and the useless ambulance doctor is not there? minimal shadow of doubt and anyone who claims otherwise is lying, knowing they are lying and is therefore in bad faith because they are deceiving the patient who should instead be respected and cared for in the best possible way! Unfortunately, this often, too often, does not happen and those responsible should examine their consciences in case they have it!”.
