The Strait of Messina puts the project of the “Alternative to Contesse” proposal back in the drawer and closes it with a double whammy. In yesterday morning’s session of the Bridge Commission, the design idea of the engineers Salvatore Crapanzano and Giovanni Saccà was illustrated for an alternative route to the one which involves the tunnel “coming out” at the height of the town in the southern area, with associated expropriations and construction of the new station. A proposal that was supposed to be debated in August but, after the Gazzetta’s previews, the “Stretto” had asked president Trischitta to be present. And so it was, two months and 10 days later. «It is an initiative – councilor Raffaele Rinaldo claimed at the beginning – which is part of the Save Contesse, let’s take advantage of this stop by the Court of Auditors which blocked the Cipess resolution to think about it».
Crapanzano (online) and Saccà (in person) presented their proposal which «seeks to reconcile progress, the Bridge, so as to make it coexist with the city without causing harm to citizens. It is a variant proposal that has some particular characteristics: firstly, it can avoid all expropriations, therefore, it can improve the railway network in Messina and, finally, it recovers a large part of the railway project already approved by Cipess”.
The project hypothesizes a modification to the railway project with the expectation that the route towards the Bridge no longer starts from Contesse, avoiding expropriations, demolitions and damage to the territory.
