They were trying to steal a van parked along a public road when they were surprised and arrested by the Carabinieri of the Radiomobile Unit. A 22-year-old and a 19-year-old ended up in handcuffs, the latter originally from the province of Catania and already known to the police. Both will have to answer for the crimes of aggravated theft in competition e recycling.
The episode occurred during the night of Mili Marina. During a territorial control service, the military noticed the two young people fiddling next to a van. Upon seeing the patrol, they attempted to walk away casually, throwing on the ground a wrench, a modified tool for opening cars and a control unit for the vehicle’s ignition.
Suspicious of their attitude and the abandoned material, the Carabinieri stopped the two, proceeding with a personal search and checking the car in which they had arrived. Other tools used for the break-in were found inside the vehicle.
Subsequent investigations revealed that the car used by the young people, despite having a license plate registered to the 19-year-old, appeared to be the proceeds of a theft which occurred in Messina on November 1st. Furthermore, the chassis number had been partially altered, in an attempt to make the vehicle appear regular in the event of an inspection.
The two arrested were taken to the barracks and made available to the judicial authorities. They will be judged with very direct ritual
