There is less and less time left until the start of the championship and Messina, after their debut in the Coppa Italia in the match against Crotone (1-0 defeat and elimination in the first round), are focused on their home debut against Potenza on Sunday 25th at 8.45pm in a “Franco Scoglio” which, at least according to the announcements of the last few weeks, should present itself empty in the curve, without the support of the organised groups determined to desert the stadium until the handover.
The negotiation for the transfer, which, after the extension requested last July 30, is still alive and both the president Peter Sciotto that the foreign group interested in acquiring the club are working to get to the white smoke, even if it is unlikely that there will be a decisive acceleration before the start of the tournament.
In this scenario, meanwhile, the Giallorossi team must think about the pitch, while the sporting director Joseph Peacock still has nine days to complete the roster. There are 21 current members and two free places: one issue to resolve is that of the goalkeeper and with the former Taranto Gianmarco Vannucchi who seems further away and destined for Ternana, the ds is working on another experienced profile to complete a department that includes only two youngsters, the 2004 class Flavio Curtosi and the 2006 class Antonio Di Bellacurrently the only ones available for the match against Potenza.
New developments should arrive soon both between the posts and in attack.
There is interest in Alex Sobczyk, Austrian born in 1997: certainly not the much-desired “gollifer”, but a player with a good physique (187 centimeters), who grew up in the youth team of Rapid Vienna. Over 250 appearances and around sixty goals in his experiences in his homeland in the Second Division and in the top leagues of Poland, Cyprus and, until last season, in Slovakia with Skalica. The last few years have been not very prolific, with just 3 goals in two years, while his best season remains 2019/2020, when he reached double figures (11 goals) with the Slovakians of Spartak Trnava. The 27-year-old, however, does not seem to be the only option and Messina is also evaluating other alternatives to complete the squad available to Mister Modica.
Towards Potenza. Yesterday afternoon training at the “Marullo” for Messina, who will be busy today with a double session, while tomorrow a family match is planned to evaluate condition and technical-tactical aspects.
Striker Petrungaro will be absent on Sunday, having to serve a one-match suspension from last season with Fermana, while midfielder Petrungaro trained regularly. Dominic Franco who, requested by Picerno, is an element that the club and staff would not like to lose, also because the possible replacement with another senior would not be easy in the last days of the market (closing on August 30th).
The refereeing trio. The home debut will be directed by Claudio Giuseppe Allegretta from Molfettawho will meet Messina for the first time. The Apulian referee will be assisted by two assistants from Campania, Alessandro Marchese from Naples and Antonio Aletta from Avellino.
