Full bags, irregular deliveries and overflowing bins on the day dedicated to the collection of undifferentiated waste. This is the photograph taken by MessinaServizi Bene Comune, which on its social channels denounced yet another day of overwork for the operators working in the central area.
According to what was communicated by the company, many citizens continue to dispose of non-compliant waste on the day designated for “non-separatable”, accumulating plastic, paper, bottles, disposable tableware and even clothes, materials which can instead be disposed of free of charge and without limits in the ecological islands.
What made the situation worse, in many cases, was the failure to expose the tub, which is mandatory for the disposal. «A behavior – writes MessinaServizi – which is systematically repeated and which damages the entire collection system, costs the city and worsens the liveability of the neighbourhoods».
To combat bad habits, the company announces targeted checks by the Municipal Police and the environmental team, which will start from Monday evening at the request of MessinaServizi itself.
The company’s appeal is clear: «There is only one path – we read in the post – that of respect and collaboration. Only in this way can we guarantee a cleaner, tidier and more livable city for everyone.”
MessinaServizi’s report puts the spotlight back on the issue of separate waste collection in Messina, where, despite the progress made in recent years, incorrect behavior persists which puts the efficiency of the system at risk and weighs on the costs of the public service.
