A 20-year-old and a newborn are dead and 5 other people are missing after the shipwreck, last night off the coast of Gabes, of a boat with about twenty Tunisian citizens on board, bound for Europe. However, 13 people have been rescued so far. This was announced by the Tunisian National Guard.
The tragedy “occurred 120 meters from the beach on a boat carrying 20 Tunisians”, the National Guard said in a statement, noting that 13 have been rescued and searches are underway to find other survivors.
The National Guard reported that “two bodies were recovered, that of a 20-year-old boy and the other of a newborn”. “An investigation has been opened by the court” of Gabes to “carry out forensic reports” on the bodies and “determine the circumstances of the tragedy”, reads the statement.
