The Carabinieri of the Compagnia di Milazzo carried out two precautionary custody orders against two eighteen-year-olds – one of whom was still a minor at the time of the events – held responsible for attempted murder, trespassing and illegal possession of objects capable of offending.
The measures, issued by the GIP of the Barcellona Pozzo di Gotto Court and the Messina Juvenile Court, refer to a serious and dramatic episode that occurred last May 2nd in Milazzo.
The night blitz and the attack
According to what was reconstructed by the investigators of the Operations Section, the two young people entered a private home at night. Surprised by the residents, a violent scuffle broke out: the owners of the house, a 61-year-old man and his seventeen-year-old son, were hit by several blows with an edged weapon, sustaining serious injuries.
Breakthrough in investigations: the role of DNA and cameras
The turning point in the investigative activity came thanks to meticulous cross-referencing work between the footage from the video surveillance systems in the area and the scientific findings. The comparison of the biological traces found by the military at the crime scene proved to be fundamental, making it possible to unequivocally associate the genetic profile of the suspects with the attacks.
According to the investigators’ hypotheses, the raid was based on disagreements linked to issues of dealing and purchasing narcotic substances; one of the two suspects was in fact already known to the police due to specific precedents.
Prison and community placement begin
Having recognized the seriousness of the evidentiary framework and the concrete risk of repetition of the crime, the Barcellona Pozzo di Gotto Prosecutor’s Office – led by the Prosecutor Giuseppe Verzera – urged the adoption of restrictive measures. The GIP of Barcellona Pozzo di Gotto ordered precautionary custody in prison for the adult, while the young man who was a minor at the time was ordered to be placed in an educational community.
