Yesterday afternoon, at a checkpoint in the Ponente beach area, the officers of a patrol car ordered a car that was proceeding irregularly to stop. The driver did not stop and, accelerating, fled. A chase of several kilometers ensued. The race ended when the vehicle crashed into a parked car, also causing damage to a second vehicle. The high speed endangered the safety of the officers, the driver and other road users.
Once arrested, the young man refused to submit to a drug test. The checks revealed he had no driving licence, which had been revoked in the past for previous violations. Charges for driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs also emerged against him.
In addition to being arrested for resisting, he was reported for refusing to carry out toxicological tests and was sanctioned for traffic violations committed during the escape. At the order of the Barcellona prosecutor’s office, Pozzo di Gotto was placed under house arrest pending the validation hearing, which confirmed the precautionary measure.
