When the storms arrive, via Tonnara and the streets around the port promptly end up under pressure. The water accumulates, traffic slows down and one of the most delicate points of the Milazzo waterfront returns to deal with a critical issue that has been dragging on for some time. Now, however, something is moving: in the next few days, work should begin on the refunctionalization of the rainwater discharges into the sea, while on the port road system front the construction site is now close to completion, with the aim of making the new connection operational by November.
It is a double intervention destined to have a profound impact on one of the strategic areas of the city: on the one hand the need to guarantee a better flow of rainwater, on the other that of redesigning the traffic flows directed towards the port, separating them as much as possible from the urban roads.
The wastewater project, worth around 160 thousand euros, affects various points of the water disposal system, from the hydrofoil terminal in via Luigi Rizzo to via Tonnara, in particular in the stretch between Bingo and Lido Azzurro. The executive planning was sent by the Municipality to the Strait Port System Authority at the end of last year, with the aim of intervening on the critical issues that emerged during the most intense rain events. The intervention comes as the new port road system is now in its final phase, which will directly connect the Acqueviole area with the port area, allowing the flows directed to the terminal to be separated from city traffic.
