Now it’s official. The pedestrian area will start on the weekend from July 26th. The mayor Pippo Midili and the councilor for economic development Angelo Maimone announced it, anticipating several new features compared to the past to attract visitors. So in addition to the craft markets, a Ferris wheel will also be installed on the Garibaldi marina. A further opportunity to admire the city. But mobility from the car parks to the center will also be ensured with shuttle buses. “We have reviewed some sections of the road to be closed to traffic to meet the needs put forward by the merchants’ associations – the two administrators stated – but we are always ready to intervene for any corrections. We also believe that the free shuttles both to the West and to the East give the opportunity to experience the city center in the best way, leaving the car. The Ferris wheel will certainly be an added value. We are also happy to start the pedestrian area of the weekend, on the day in which the “Notte bianca” will be held in Milazzo».
In the meantime, the Administration also aims to regulate the Ponente bathing area and especially the Tono which is stormed by bathers, with the consequence that criticalities are created in vehicular traffic and inconveniences for residents. Also yesterday it was learned from Palazzo dell’Aquila that due to the high influx of citizens and tourists to the western coast, and in particular to Tono, Local police checks have been intensified to prevent illegal parking for the purposes of road safety and public safety in general.
Thanks to the recent approval by the Prefecture of Messina of the project “Safe Beaches 2024”, with which the Municipality was granted a contribution of 30,000 euros, there will also be more checks on the coast to ensure correct compliance with the rules on the use of showers and waste disposal. As part of the checks, the activity of checking transits on via Nettuno and related access roads from via Tono will also be intensified for the purposes of compliance with current ordinances.
In this regard, the Municipality has invited residents and all those entitled to the issue of a transit permitto promptly contact the Local Police Command to issue the pass (which must always be clearly displayed on the windshield) in order to avoid possible sanctions. The ZTL will not be implemented this year either, which has been on standby for three years now with the signs strictly covered. Just a few days ago, residents of via Nettuno, one of the streets in the Tono district, requested interventions from the Administration to ensure greater safety. In particular, they reported the high-speed transit of cars, often in the wrong direction, and the illegal parking that even prevents access to or exit from their homes. A lack of lighting was also reported in the two parking lots on the sea side.
