Monaco GP, Lewis Hamilton flies in free practice. Leclerc's Ferrari is fifth

Lewis Hamilton sets the best time (1:12.169) in the first free practice session of the Monaco GP, the eighth round of the Formula 1 world championship. The multiple world champion with Mercedes preceded Oscar Piastri, with McLaren (1:12.198) and his teammate George Russell (1:12.295), Fifth fastest time for Charles Leclerc's Ferrari, with 1:12.397, while the Another Ferrari driver, Carlos Sainz, finished tenth (1:12.954), just ahead of the Red Bulls of world championship leader Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez.
Lando Norris also placed ahead of Leclerc, with McLaren, and behind him Fernando Alonso with Aston Martin. The session was interrupted for a few minutes towards the end when Sauber driver Zhou Guanyu crashed into the barriers. Leclerc passed by the scene shortly after, unable to avoid some debris left on the track and so had the bottom of his car carefully checked in the pits.
