We need a miracle. Despite Pecco’s success in the Sepang GP BagnaiaJorge Martin consolidates first place in the standings with a 24 point lead. The Spaniard is thus getting closer to the title, becoming the big favorite for the final victory of the 2023 MotoGP. With such a large margin, Martin could just need to win the Sprint in Barcelona to mathematically close the championship.

Bagnaia, the feat to keep the World Cup open

The situation for Francesco Bagnaia, reigning champion, appears complex. Even a double success over the weekend in Barcelona – both in the Sprint and in the Race – would not be enough to guarantee him overtaking in the standings: with 34 potential points, Bagnaia will in fact have to hope that Martin does not go beyond seventh place, given that with 9 points the Spaniard would still ensure the title victory.

Mathematics keeps hope alive for the Ducati rider, who would have an advantage in the event of a tie on points, thanks to the greater number of Grands Prix won in the season (10 compared to Martin’s 3). However, the task remains arduous, with Martin arriving in Barcelona on the strength of exceptional form and a favorable ranking situation.

The challenge between the two riders continues with high tension: while Martin aims to confirm the advantage, Bagnaia looks for the twist to keep the fight open until the last race.
