The good feeling between Pecco Bagnaia and the Spielberg track is confirmed. The reigning world champion of Ducati set the fastest time in pre-qualifying for the Austrian GP, also achieving a track record of 1’28”508.
The Turin native, who said in the usual pre-race press conference on Thursday that the Austrian track is one of his favorites, preceded Franco Morbidelli’s Pramac Ducati by 0’281, confirming that the Borno Panigale bike does very well on the Spielberg asphalt. Behind them was Jorge Martin with the other Pramac: the current leader of the championship is 0’319 behind. Behind the leading trio is Marc Marquez with the Ducati of the Gresini team at 0’350 and the South African Brad Binder (0’461) called to defend the colors of Ktm on the home circuit of the Austrian team.
Bad Enea Bastianini with the second official Ducati, tenth at 0’773 and also protagonist of a fall. The Aprilias conquer the seventh and eighth place with Aleix Espargaró (0’599) and Maverick Vinales (0’609). Finally, a bad dislocation of the left shoulder for Fabio Di Giannantonio who fell on turn 8: the Roman rider did not return to the track, after his accident, and was taken to the hospital for the reduction of the dislocation.
