The Ministry of the Interior set on a date between April 15 and June 15, the call of electioni in the municipalities of San Luca in Aspromonte, Scilla, Marina di Gioiosa Ionica, Melito Porto Salvo and San Lorenzo.
The municipal administration of San Luca in Aspromonte was dissolved last year following an investigation by the District Prosecutor for alleged custody by the Body, without tender, of some market spaces made near the sanctuary of the Madonna di Polli, to people considered linked to the ‘Ndrangheta. Thousands of pilgrimage arrive in Polsi in the first days of September every year. On those days, historically, the leaders of the Calabrian ‘Ndrangheta to organize the criminal strategies, authorize and close the new and old “local” of’ Ndrangheta are also encountered and proceed to the assignment of the new hierarchical offices.
Even in Scilla, citizens will return to the polls after the early dissolution for mafia infiltrations of the Municipality following an operation of the DDA of Reggio Calabria in the spring of 2023. For the former mayor of the Tyrrhenian town, Pasquale Ciccone, the Court of Reggio Calabria has already excluded any involvement in the investigation. The electoral round, will also concern two municipalities in the Grecanica Reggina area, San Lorenzo and Melito Porto Salvo, whose civic underlying were dissolved due to the resignation of the mayors in office and the majority of the city councilors.
Finally, the polls will also be reopened in the municipality of Marina di Gioiosa Ionica, in Locride, after some judicial events that concerned a group of municipal councilors. Obviously, the rebus of the presentation of the lists remains, a phenomenon that is mainly affecting the small aspromcontic and hilly municipalities.
