‘Ndrangheta, fugitive Antonio Sganga arrested at Orio al Serio airport: he had taken refuge in Georgia

The agents of the flying squad, of the investigative section of the Turin Police Headquarters and of the Cuneo traffic police, together with the Carabinieri of the Cuneo investigative unit, arrested at the Orio al Serio airport (Bergamo), Giuseppe Sganga fugitive and recipient of an extradition order.

The man had been convicted in the first instance for external complicity in a mafia-type association, drug trafficking and receiving stolen goods and, in a second trial, for unauthorized access to computer systems and attempted computer fraud. He had taken refuge in Georgia, thanks to the support of acquaintances.

Sganga had been sentenced at first instance, by the Court of Asti, to 11 years and 4 months in prison for mafia association, drug trafficking and receiving stolen goods, as part of the trial onexistence of a local ‘ndrangheta in Bra (Cuneo), which managed drug dealing, robberies and extortion in the area and which saw at the top the Luppino family, originally from Sant’Eufemia d’Aspromontein Calabria, but settled for years in the Bra area, thanks to the brothers Salvatore and Vincenzo.

Also by the Asti court, the man was sentenced to 2 years and 11 months in prison for money laundering and receiving stolen goods.

For the operation that led to his extradition, the cooperation between the Italian and Georgian police was crucial. In fact, Sganga was included in the Interpol Cooperation Against ‘Ndrangheta project, established to facilitate searches for wanted people on an international level.
