The Carabinieri of the investigative unit of the provincial command of Pavia proceeded with the execution of seizurepreparatory to confiscation of various lands in the municipality of Buccinasco (Milan) owned by Pasquale Zappia, 84 years old, originally from Platì (Reggio Calabria) and known as one of the leaders of the Calabrian 'ndrangheta. The operation was carried out under the mandate of the Public Prosecutor's Office of Milan – District Anti-Mafia Directorate (DDA). The seized land has an estimated value of approximately 500 thousand euros.
The asset assessment activities were carried out after the issue of an anti-mafia interdiction by the Prefecture of Milan, continued with the investigations conducted by the Carabinieri of the Pavia Prosecutor's Office and concluded by the judicial police of the DDA. From the investigations it emerged that «the assets acquired – underlines a note from the Carabinieri of Pavia – were the result of investment of proceeds derived from the commission of profit-generating crimes and that, therefore, they were worthy of recovery by the State through the application of the Anti-Mafia Code”. Pasquale Zappia was involved in the “North-South” operation in 1993 and was subsequently convicted in the “Infinite” trial.
