‘Ndrangheta, Palumbo murder in Vibo: two are freed

The Court of Review of Catanzaro accepted the appeal of the defenders of four suspects and annulled the precautionary custody order in prison in relation to the murder of Michele Palumbokilled in Longobardi (a hamlet of Vibo Valentia) on 11 March 2010. They therefore return in total freedom Salvatore Vita49 years old, from Portosalvo (fraction of Vibo), e Franco D’Ascoli, 53 years old, from Vibo Marina, upholding the appeals of the lawyers Sergio Rotundo and Alice Massara who also assist Rosario Fiorillo34 years old, from Piscopio, who also had his appeal accepted but remains detained for a final sentence for another murder.

In relation to the murder of Michele Palumbo – believed to be the right-hand man of the Limbadi boss in the Vibo Marina area Pantaleone Mancuso (known as Scarpuni) – the appeal of the lawyers Giuseppe Bagnato and Rosa Giorno for was finally accepted (annulment of the measure in prison). Salvatore Tripodi, 53 years old, from Portosalvo, who however remains detained for the crime of mafia association. The Palumbo crime is contested by the Catanzaro DDA as part of the anti-mafia operation called “Portosalvo”, launched last May with various precautionary measures ordered by the district investigating judge.
