The health conditions would not be compatible with the prison regime. The request for release, or relief from the precautionary measure, presented by the lawyer Domenico Infantino, Pino Piromalli’s lawyer, to the Reggio Calabria Review Court is based on this assumption. The elderly boss of Gioia Tauro has been hospitalized for about two weeks at the clinical center of the Milan Opera penitentiary due to the worsening of his condition. The 80-year-old, after his arrest on September 23, was confined in Palmi prison. The decision to transfer him to Milan was made in the days following the rejection, by the district investigating judge of Reggio Calabria, of the first request for release presented in early October by the lawyer Infantino. A rejection challenged by Piromalli’s lawyer who appealed before the judges of the Court of Freedom. Piromalli, therefore, is waiting for the date on which the request will be discussed to be set. An appeal which is based, as mentioned, on the precarious health conditions of the elderly boss of the port city, who is no longer self-sufficient.
