The new ferry which will soon enter service in the Aeolian Islands and has been delivered to the Caronte & Tourist Isole Minori company has arrived in the port of Messina for transit, directly from Turkey, where it was built. Nerea, this is how she was baptized in Turkish waters, where the new ship with a modern design and a green heart was born. The official presentation will be held on Monday 4 December in Palermo

Another important step for the expansion of the fleet, a jewel of concentrated innovation and efficiency in 109.95 m long by 19.5 m wide, dimensions studied by NAOS – a naval design company from Trieste – based on the needs of the small ports of the smaller Sicilian islands that it will serve, together with the extraordinary hydrodynamic characteristics, capable of maneuvering safely, also thanks to the two 800 bow thrusters kW each.

Expression of research, advanced technology and sustainability, Nerea combines performance and low environmental impact. Just like the Elio was – the flagship of the C&T fleet in the Strait of Messina which in 2018 was the greenest passenger ship to sail the Mediterranean – Nerea will be a cutting-edge example whose main propulsion is entrusted to a hybrid Diesel/ Latest generation LNG/battery with four Wärtsilä engines capable of guaranteeing a cruising speed of 16.5 knots (maximum equal to 18.5 knots).

Nerea will also carry up to 800 passengers and 115 vehicles and its use will lead to reductions in harmful emissions equal to -45% of carbon dioxide; -60% nitrogen oxides (NOx); -99% of sulfur oxides (SOx) as well as a 99% reduction in particulate matter.
