Not only the mayors of the Ionian “coast”, but also those of the hinterland embrace the idea of establishing the Province of Sibaritide launched by the mayor of Corigliano Rossano Flavio Stasi and sanctioned by the establishment of the temporary council commission for administrative decentralization. The mayor of Caloveto, a small municipality in Sila Greca, Umberto Mazza, shares the project and is ready to do his part: «I am in favor and convinced that it is fundamental, says Mayor Mazza, to join forces and make clear and concrete requests to fill the institutional and infrastructural deficiencies that have hindered the development of the territory over the years».
For Mazza it is also essential to do so “in this historical moment” and the establishment of the Province of Sibaritide could represent the useful but also necessary tool to be able to aim to cover that infrastructural gap which has always penalized the territory and especially the municipalities of the internal areas , like Caloveto, which together with the other small towns of Sila Greca have to deal daily with the inconveniences linked to connections and the lack of services which generate the danger of depopulation which leads to towns rich in history and tradition having to count every year fewer and fewer residents. «The territories – continued the mayor of Caloveto Umberto Mazza – are now ripe to forcefully claim the rights that have so far been denied to our territory, rich in history, art and culture».
