CISAL Calabria welcomes the appointment of the new regional council, announced by President Roberto Occhiuto for the start of his second mandate, hoping that the new legislature marks a change of pace on central issues for the economic and social future of the region.
WORK AND EMPLOYMENT: THE PRIORITIES
The urgencies remain clear: stabilization of temporary staff in the public administration, support for companies that create quality employment and effective measures to combat youth emigration which continues to deprive Calabria of its best energies.
“It is necessary to move to an operational phase made up of concrete actions and measurable results – declares Vitaliano Papillo, CISAL Calabria Regional Secretariat – Young Calabrians must be able to build their future here, through real opportunities and sustainable growth policies”.
TERRITORIAL DEVELOPMENT, TOURISM, AGRICULTURE AND STRATEGIC INFRASTRUCTURES
On a development level, CISAL recalls the importance of valorising territorial vocations and local potential, starting from tourism and agriculture, two sectors which are now increasingly synergistic and capable of generating added value if networked together.
“Tourism and agriculture represent an extraordinary economic lever for Calabria – underlines Papillo – but to grow they need modern and integrated infrastructures: safe roads, efficient railways, functional airports, connected ports and a digital network capable of meeting current challenges. Only in this way can Calabria be truly accessible, competitive and attractive, while offering quality, sustainability and stable employment”.
HEALTH: A SYSTEM TO BE REORGANIZED AND MADE CLOSE TO THE CITIZENS
CISAL also draws attention to the healthcare system, which requires a thorough review and targeted interventions to guarantee adequate services to citizens. “It is essential to monitor the progress of the works relating to the new hospitals – highlights Papillo – but also to rethink regional healthcare, focusing on efficiency, proximity and quality of services. As CISAL we will put forward proposals to the President and Commissioner for Health, hoping that we can soon overcome the commissionership phase, restoring full management autonomy to Calabria”.
TRAINING, UNIVERSITY AND YOUNG PEOPLE: INVESTING IN HUMAN CAPITAL
Calabria’s growth also depends on the strengthening of the training and university system. “The Calabrian universities represent a strategic asset – says Papillo – but greater attention is needed towards students, guaranteeing concrete support, advanced training courses and real connections with the world of work. We must invest in continuous training and in the valorisation of skills, putting the person and their dignity at the centre, because the daily choices of politics must start from listening to the real needs of citizens”.
ENVIRONMENT AND SEA: RESOURCE TO BE PROTECTED
Finally, CISAL underlines the need for a more incisive policy on the protection of the sea and the environment. “A constant and determined commitment is needed on the purification and management of the water cycle – adds Papillo – The sea is a vital resource for Calabria, but it must be protected and enhanced through structural interventions and careful planning, which safeguards the environment and improves the quality of life of citizens”.
INSTITUTIONAL DIALOGUE AND COMPARISON
CISAL reiterates its availability for a constructive discussion with the new Council on all issues concerning work, development and social cohesion.
“Social dialogue – concludes Papillo – is the key to building a more just and modern Calabria. We will continue to carefully follow the action of the regional executive, ready to collaborate, but also to draw attention to the needs of workers and local communities. Putting man at the center must be the compass of every political choice”.
