The Libyan Attorney General’s Office has ordered the arrest of Osama Almasri Anjim. The Libyan broadcaster Libya24 writes this on its Facebook profile. Almasri was sent to trial for torturing migrants and causing the death of one of them.
Gianassi (Pd): Libya is also ahead of Italy
«While the Italian government freed and escaped a criminal responsible for murders, rapes and torture, even Libya proves to be ahead of Italy in the defense of legality. The General Prosecutor’s Office of Libya has in fact ordered the precautionary custody in prison of General Almasri, former head of security for the prisons of Tripoli, accused of murder and violations of human rights against ten prisoners”.
This was stated in a note from the leader of the Democratic Party in the chamber’s justice and commission, Federico Gianassi. «The former official, already wanted by the International Criminal Court, has been referred to the Libyan court for trial. While the Libyan Prosecutor’s Office acts against those guilty of crimes against humanity, the Italian government which proclaims itself as “defender of Western values” has instead chosen not to hand over a dangerous criminal to the international criminal court, betraying the victims and offending the memory of those who suffered under violence and abuse of power. It is a paradox that today it is Libya that is giving lessons in justice to Italy. The Meloni Government must be ashamed.”
